Cape York. 252 Rahima Moosa street
Once notorious for its turbulent history, the Cape York building in Doornfontein situated at the corner of Nugget and Rahima Moosa Streets was long plagued by neglect and criminal activity. After being hijacked and fraudulently sold multiple times, it became dangerously overcrowded, with illegal rent collection and no access to basic services such as running water, electricity, or sanitation. Over time, the building became synonymous with crime, drug trafficking, and prostitution, drawing national attention after a devastating fire in 2017.
With a deep understanding of the challenges students face when it comes to housing, we set out to create more than just accommodation we build communities.
In 2019, Focus One assumed ownership and launched a comprehensive redevelopment of the property. Reimagined as secure, modern student accommodation, Cape York reopened in January 2020 with upgraded infrastructure, robust security, and contemporary amenities transforming a once blighted landmark into a vibrant center of student life and renewal
